Networking and Telecommunications

Telecommunications Infrastructure Planner/Designer

This position will serve as a project manager for ITS portions of construction and renovation projects. Also, will serve as point of contact and liaison for UT Austin construction management teams. Provide skilled design and analysis of appropriate telecommunication cabling systems to meet the needs of the university that are inclusive of cost evaluation, implementation plans, and project management.

Accounting and Customer Service Supervisor

This position coordinates ITS Networking and Telecommunication’s front office supporting orders, charges, service, and billing.

Network Analyst

The Network Analyst under supervision, implements and maintains network services. Uses knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to help plan maintain wired and wireless networks with guidance from network engineers. Tests and troubleshoots network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements.


This position will need to provide journey level installation, repair and maintenance of building telecommunications horizontal cabling.

Stores Clerk II

To provide support for the ITS departments by delivering material from warehouse to onsite locations. Assist warehouse manager with computer and warehouse operational needs.

Voice Analyst

This VoIP Analyst position provides voice network administration, maintenance and support of UT Telecom switching systems and servers. It also provides the technical skills required to design, modify, and maintain complex and varied data communication/voice network configurations.

Campus Solutions

Senior Systems Administrator

The Administrative Systems team is responsible for the campus mainframe, which houses critical university data, as well as more than 75 Linux servers. The person who fills this position will provide ongoing support for these systems and a variety of tools (e.g., Task Manager, Natural on the Web, file transfer processing) that we maintain to support administrative developers on campus and will likely learn the underpinnings of the mainframe, as well.

Software Engineer

This position establishes test procedures and tests and debugs programs/services as assigned. It also reviews programs and systems written by others using Github. With guidance, this position creates software documentation including flowcharts, statements of program objectives and associated documentation.

Financial and Business Services

Accounting Administrative Associate

This position provides customer-focused financial and administrative request fulfillment for Information Technology Services and its partners. Duties include invoice processing, purchase requests, inventory management, and travel reimbursements. Interacts with internal and external customers via ticketing system, voice and video calls, and email.

University Data Center

Data Center Infrastructure Specialist

This Data Center Infrastructure Specialist position coordinates maintenance and repairs with UT and contractor personnel on critical infrastructure and building system components. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots facilities equipment at data center sites across UT Austin campuses. Equipment supported includes backup generators and related fuel systems, 3 phase medium and high voltage switch gear, UPSs, PDUs, VLRA and wet cell batteries, DX and Chilled Water HVAC systems, chillers, pumps, VFDs, CRACs/CRAHs, cooling towers, and fire suppression systems. This equipment supports mission-critical computing systems and must maintain better than 99.98 percent up-time. This position also assists other ITS departments as needed to fulfill university requirements.

ITS is also a great place for students to find a part-time, on-campus job where they can develop customer service skills, help support the university mission, and get real professional experience. Student employee positions with ITS are often a stop along the path to a rewarding full-time information technology position at the university. Just to give you an idea of the possibilities that await, our current Director of Networking, Chief Information Security Officer, as well as a range of other staff titles in Applications, Networking, Systems, Customer Support Services, and the Information Security Office, all started out at the ITS Service Desk as student employees.
